Charity, Chaos and Crystal Mazes

How We Turned a Day in London into £2,000 for Women and Children in Crisis

For our first VTO (Volunteer Time Off) day of the year, we partnered with The Magpie Project. They’re a grassroots charity supporting mums and young children facing homelessness or fleeing domestic abuse. Their mission is simple and urgent: make sure every child has access to safety, play, proper food and support.

This is how we got involved.

Starting with the Essentials

We began the day by building maternity bags and welfare kits. These are for families living in temporary accommodation, filled with items that most of us don’t think twice about – nappies, wipes, baby grows, toothbrushes – but that are vital when you’re starting from nothing.

Scouting Supplies

Armed with a budget, we split into teams and headed into the streets of London to find the best kit items we could. Nappies, baby grows, toiletries, we searched out the best deals around the city. Competitive instincts kicked in quickly!

Ten Kilometres, Ten Landmarks

Once the kits were packed, we kept moving. We took on a 10 K walk across London, past landmarks like the Tower of London, the London Eye, and Buckingham Palace. The fact that it turned out to be on the warmest, sunniest day of the year so far was a big, unexpected bonus!

Ending on a High

We wrapped the day at the Crystal Maze Live Experience. Think laser mazes, cryptic clues, a wind tunnel full of flying tickets and a lot of shouting. Let’s say no one was holding back!

£2,000 Raised, with Impact That Lasts

We raised over £2,000 for The Magpie Project. Huge shoutout to the Ziipline team for a day filled with energy, compassion, and a commitment to doing something good. If you’d like to contribute to this incredibly worthy cause, you can do so here.
